Thangulam | A mesmeric Himalayan hamlet

Thangulam is a picturesque village located at 7000 ft. (above sea level). This virgin village situated just few kms from kalimpong and almost 3 hrs. from NJP. This is an ideal place to watch Kanchenjunga throughout the day, also a nice destination for bird lovers. Thangulam is around 5 kms. from Kalimpong and 2 kms. from Delo.

          Meaning of the name ‘Thangulam’ is Hill-Top in local Bhutia language, the village located at higher altitude than Delo. The village offers birds-eye view of Kanchenjunga mountain range, Lava Loleygaon and River Teesta on a clear day. Many Himalayan birds and animals can be seen here.

Accommodation in Thangulam

Only one resort is available for accommodation at Thangulam. The resort is located ideally amidst many places or point of interest like Deolo (15 min), Dr. Grahams Home (5 min), Kalimpong town (20 min), Lava, Loleygaon (50min drive).

          Magnificent view of nearby and mighty Kanchenjunga can be seen from the resort, tariff starting from Rs.1500 for double bedded rooms, Rs.1800 for four bedded rooms. All rooms are spacious and cozy provides all facilities like attached western bath with hot water facility.

How to Reach Thangulam

Nearest railway station is New Jalpaiguri (NJP) and nearest airport is Bagdogra (IXB). Direct car/taxis are available to Thangulam, it will take around three hrs. to reach and cost will around Rs.2500 – Rs.3000 depending on car type.

          Shared jeeps are also available from Siliguri to Kalimpong, from here book a car to Thangulam or call homestay owner to pick-up you.

Thangulam can be visit throughout the year, avoid monsoon.
