Yakten (ইয়াকতেন) is a Homestay depended village in East Sikkim, India, situated on 6,000 ft. above sea level distance from Gangtok only 35 K.M after Pakyong. A new airport is building or under contraction very near of Gangtok city at Pakyong. A nice picturesque virgin village, surrounded by lush green fields and also famous for rare Himalayan orchids. There are few homstayes for nature loving travelers, this village decorated with these homstays. All the rooms of hosmaestays are lovely, well decorated and maintained with utile facilities. You can experience flower garden, vegetable fields with Coriander leaf, cabbage cultivating in front of almost each and every homestays, blue sky one above and smoking fog and multiple types of orchids.

The Yaakten Village is located at a distance of 10 kilometers uphill drive from Pakyong, East Sikkim which is newly built airport in Sikkim. The first ever Yaakten Bojeytaar village ecotourism festival held back in the month of February brought about new changes in the tourism perspective of this place. The festival was indeed a grand success after which the Yaakten village received an overwhelming ratio of domestic tourist inflow which is a record breaking event that a new village tourism destination has ever received. There are at present 8 home stay facilities at the Yaakten village with modern attached washroom. The Yaakten village commands a panoramic view of the Mount Khangchendzonga and its allied peaks on a clear sunny day which is just breathtaking. Situated away from the hustle and bustle of city life the Yaakten village will indeed give to the discerning travelers a feeling of peace and solitude.

          Homestay owner will welcome you with a cup of tea along with local food  'Sel Roti', a traditional homemade food in Nepali communities. A must have cuisine made by Rice flour, little sweet, edible oil and tea leaf extract with lots of warm hospitality. The lunch is also mouthwatering; especially you will never forget taste of coriander and mint chutney. Shining light of Gangtok city and Zuluk can be visible from your room at night sky. Take an early morning rise and walk for few minutes through the dense forest from village to witness a memorable sunrise, a wiz game of sunlight on snow capped peaks of Mt. Kanchenjunga, Mt. Kumbhakarna, and Mt. Kabru.

One could also make short hike to “Jhandi Dara” and “Budaang Gadi” where one could find the ancient ruins of the fort. The trek route along Jhandi dara is blossomed with different species of rhododendrons which gives a heavenly feel as you walk along the path. The v360 degree view of Mt. Kanchenjunga and its peak here is exceptionally unmatched from anywhere else.

How to Reach Yakten

Nearest airport is Pakyong Airport (PYG - updated on September 2018) and second nearest airport is Bagdogra, distance around 10 K.M and 140 K.M. respectively. Nearest railway station is New Jalpaiguri (NJP) and distance around 135 K.M. direct car and shared jeep available to Gangtok from airport and railway station, and fare would be around Rs.180 to Rs.200. From Gangtok book a car to Yakten through Ranipool, Jalipool, Saramsa Garden and Pakyong. The Saramsa Garden is famous for annual international flower show. Gangtok to Pakyong a journey of around one and half hour and distance is only 21 K.M from Gangtok. Pakyong a market town with jeep stand, shared jeeps available to Pakyong from Gangtok cost would be around Rs.60 to Rs.80. The road from Pakyong to Yakten through bamboo and bamboo-cane forest, after 12 K.M drive a sign board (Welcome to Yeti's land Yakten) will welcome you.

Updated on September 2018  - Direct sharing jeeps available from Siliguri stand to Pakyong town, fare around Rs.200/person. The sand located on Sevoke road just behind Vishal Cinema Hall. Sharing jeeps to Pakyong are available up to 12 – 12.30 P.M.

Best Season to Visit Yakten

Yakten welcomes tourists all over the year, maximum temperature in summer is 260 C, and in winter temperature is chilling between 40 C to 120 C. Monsoon exists from mid June to August, a long lasting rainy season in Sikkim, in monsoon colorful clods make a nice panoramic view of the Yakten village. Note for tourists: Yakten is chill in summer also, so carry enough warm cloths.
