Pastanga (পাস্টাঙ্গা) is a beautiful hamlet and picturesque village in East Sikkim district. This village is located about 4700 ft. above sea level. The name “Pastannga” derived from ‘Pasing Tengkha’ in local Bhutia language, which means ‘below the bamboo forest’. The untouched Sikkimese village Pastanga is very near of capital city Gangtok, distance only 28 K.M. Someone can reach within one and half hrs. journey from Gangtok to Pastanga. The village is heaven for birds lovers, also offers nice view of sacred waterfall, flowers (orchids and rhododendrons), birds and butterflies. Different species of butterflies can be seen here including Blue-Mormon and monarch are famous. Pastanga also famous for its cardamom cultivation and ginger, you can experience lush green village with full of cardamom plantation. Pastanga village is an ideal place for nature lovers who would love to experience traditional Sikkimese village life. Trekkers also can make a trek to Khedi.

How to Reach Pastanga

Nearest railway station is New Jalpaiguri (NJP) and nearest airport is Bagdogra (IXB), direct car and taxis are available from NJP, Siliguri and Bagdogra to Pastanga through Ranipool and Assam Lingzey and car rent would be around Rs.1500/ to Rs.1800/ depending on season.

          You can also take shared jeep from Siliguri to Gangtok and then take a car to Pastanga. Shard jeep also available from Gangtok to Ranipool from here you can reach Pastanga.

Best Season to Visit Pastanga

Pastanga can be visited throughout the year, but best time to visit Pastanga is summer (March to June) and after monsoon (September to November).
