Sribadam |
Sribadam (শ্রীবাদাম) is a small picturesque Himalayan village
located in West Sikkim surrounded by nature and greenery. The Sribadam village
is also locally known as Sreebadam, situated just around 85
kms. away from capital city Gangtok and 129 kms from Siliguri. There are lakes,
monastery, waterfall, stream for fishing. One can trek to Versey rhododendron
sanctuary. The village is paradise for bird watching as well as butterflies can
be seen here.
The name
derived from Siribatam, which means flat or open land in local tribal
language. This hamlet situated at 7000 ft. above sea level (2100 meters). This beautiful
forest village is famous for healing of sick people in the monastery and the
meditation center. Phuntshog Ngayabling Monastery located in this village and
attracts number of pilgrims from neighbor states and countries like Nepal and
Bhutan for mediation.
You can
go for a short uphill trek to the waterfall, take a small walk cardamom (elaichi)
plantation. Also you can visit holy eight wheels which run by water currents,
this place is very holy to local villagers. An annual Cham dance (Mask Dance) is
celebrated in this village every year during month of December.

Village homestay is only
Accommodation at Sribadam, our associate homestay provides comfortable stay
with all basic facilities. The homestay located in a nice location, there is a garden with full of
orchids and flowers in front of the homestay. A flowing stream and maize farm
in front of the thick bamboo plants. A thin forest and a playground is
there just behind the homestay.
Currently we are offering 1 double bedded room with attached
western bath, and two cottages with double bed and western bath. All rooms are spacious,
cozy, well-maintained and hygienic, easily three (3) person or family (2 adults
& 1 child) can stay in each room.
All the food served at
homestay is made of organic vegetables along with veg & non-veg delicious dishes.
Owner Mr. Bhutia is jolly person with well knowledge of local area, he provides
guided treks/village walking.
Tariff: Rs.1,200/Person per day with all meals.
Child
Policy: Bellow 5 yrs. is complimentary, 5-10
yrs. 50% of tariff, above 10 yrs. is full.
How to Reach
Sribadam
Nearest airport is Bagdogra (IXB) and nearest railway
station is New Jalpaiguri (NJP) located around 130 kms away and takes around
4-5 hrs. to reach. Direct car/taxis are available from Siliguri/NJP/IXB to Sribadam
through Melli-Nayabazar road, Jorethang and Soreng. Someone also can reach from
Gangtok through Rangpo.
Car fare: Rs.4,000/ (Sumo, Bolero, Scorpio), Rs.3,000 (Wagon - R, Maruti)
Shared transportation is also
available from Siliguri (SNT) or from opposite of Payel cinema to Jorethang. Then
take another jeep towards Geyzing and go down up to Sribadam, your host Mr.Khesang will be
there to receive you.Cost (Approx.): Rs.250/Head
Best Season to Visit
Sribadam
Sribadam can be visited throughout the year, but best time to visit the
village is September to May, you can get fabulous view of mountains and nearby lush greenery. If
you are visiting in December then you will be witness of famous annual Cham
Dance. Sribadam also can be visited during monsoon, in that case carry gumboots & small stick to remove/avoid leech and raincoat.
