Mongpong (মংপং) is gateway of Dooars region, first and most beautiful tourist center of West Dooars. Distance of Mongpong from Siliguri (gateway of North Bengal and North-East) is around 30 K.M. The famous and very awake Sevakeswari Kali Temple will be on the way to Mongpong from Siliguri, after temple there will be another point of interest (POI) the Coronation Bridge, to cross the River Teesta. After this bridge a few area controlled by monkeys, there is also a view point at bank of river Teesta, it’s very difficult to enjoy beauty of river due to Money business.

          The lush green nature and forest of lots of big trees are main attraction of thinly populated Mongpong. There are four cottages of forest rest house of West Bengal Forest Development Corporation, view of River Teesta and lush green vegetation is superb from cottages. Take an early morning walk to bank of river Teesta by crossing small village huts; it will be a nice experience for your lifetime. A railway line also visible from your room near bank of the river, this line goes to Alipurduar from Siliguri, NJP.

Mongpong can be visited throughout the year, although March to May is very good season for Mongpong, book cottage as early as possible for this season due to high demand. Winter is also good time to visit, not so chill due to low height above sea level. In monsoon or after monsoon Mongpong takes the new forms with lush green forests and water full Teesta River.

How to Reach Mongpong

Mongpong is very near and first destination form Siliguri town towards Dooars, so it’s easily accessible from Siliguri, an enjoy full 30 to 40 minutes’ drive from Siliguri. Also you can book a car from New Jalpaiguri railway station or from Bagdogra airport and cost would be around Rs.1200 to Rs.1500.

Nearest airport is Bagdogra and only airport of North Bengal and nearest railway station is NJP or New Jalpaiguri, well connected with allover India. Public transportation also available from Siliguri or NJP RLY station to Mongpong. A small and nice bus runs by North Bengal State Transport Corporation (NBSTC) from NJP station to Lataguri via Mongpong, fare around Rs.20. to Rs25/. Timing of bus given bellow...

Best Season to Visit Mongpong

Only and best accommodation is West Bengal Forest Development Corporation’s guest Rest House cottages, two AC and two non-AC cottages are available here and rent will be Rs.1400 + tax for non-AC and Rs.1700 + tax for ac cottages. Ac rooms not required because most of the time there is no power, power cut is common here at day time, generator facility only available after 6.00 P.M to 10.00 P.M. also you can book cottages online from here.
