Currently most popular destination of Sikkim is silk –route or old- silk trade route and the entry point of Silk-Route is Lingtam (লিঙ্গতাম). The small but very beautiful village is Lingtam, which is on 4.000 ft. above sea level. You can enjoy huge green and greenery valley, spirally flowed river and silence of river (only sound is tweeting of different bird on trees.

This small village was starting point of historical silk route, this route was used to trade to central Asia via Tibet from ancient India. Recently the travelers are allowed to visit this route and region by obtaining a valid permit. There is a very simple process to get permit, permits for visiting silk route are issued from Rangoli S.D.P.O office on any week days (Excepts Holidays) between 10.00 A.M to 4.00 P.M, and you just need to submit a photo copy of valid identity (eg: Voters ID card, Passport, Driving license etc. (PAN card not accepted)) with 1 pc of recent passport size color photo. Your hotel management can arrange the permit behalf of you with above mentioned documents.

If you want to see a memorizing sun rise for your life time, and then go to Lungthung, distance only 42 K.Ms from Lingtam, and it will take around 2 hrs.  to 2.30 hrs. You will get a memorizing sun rise from Sun Rise Point, 12,000 ft. above sea level. Also you will feel like all the peaks Kanchenjunga, Kabru, KumbhKarna, Rathong and many more with parallel distance of your eyes. But one thing you need to leave early around 4.00 A.M from Lingtam to visit memorizing sun rise.

If you are not an early riser then don’t worry you will get another great view of Lungthung from Lingtam which is Zuluk-Loops or Bhul-Bhulaya. A nice view of 95 spiral road at a glance, you will never get such like of road loops anywhere in India other than Zuluk (The road to Lungthung from Lingtam). This is symbol of Zuluk or Old silk-route. You will miss memorizing Zuluk-Loops if you go to sun rise point (Lungthung) at early morning, because this route will cover with full darkness at early morning, in that case go to T-Smongo or Chnagu Lake directly and back. You will get Zuluk-Loops on your return way from Changu Lake to Lingtam.

How to Reach Lingtam

Nearest and only big railway station is New Jalpaiguri (NJP) well connected will all major cities like Kolkata, Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Bangalore and Hyderabad.

          Nearest and only airport is Bagdogra (IXB) also have daily flight from all major cities of India. From airport or railway station you can hire a car directly to Lingtam, distance around 130 K.M. and car fare around Rs.4, 000 – Rs.4, 500 depends on season.

If you are on budgeted trip then take auto-rickshaw to Siliguri then take bus from Siliguri S.N.T bus stand to Rangpo fare would be around Rs.130 – Rs. 150. From Rangpo a straight road goes to Gangtok directly, take right turn from Rangpo to Rangoli by the bank of river Rangpo, jeep or shared care fare would be around Rs50 – Rs.80. Then another shared car or jeep to Lingtam and cost would be around Rs.20 – Rs.50.

          Car fare would be around Rs.3, 500 – Rs.4, 300 from Lingtam to Changu Lake via Zuluk, Lungthung, Kupup of Silk-route and back.

Best Season to Visit Lingtam

Travel to Lingtam can be done throughout the year except monsoon.
