Kaffer Gaon or Kafer village (কাফের গাওঁ) is a less known hamlet near Loleygaon (located about 5 K.M downhill) from here you can witness an uninterrupted view snow caped peaks of Mount Kanchanjhanga. The Kafir village which is a forest range located around 45 K.M from Kalimpong. It is a very suitable place where you can enjoy holidays, relax mind and body in a cool and calm atmosphere with your family. The Kaffer village is surrounded by lush green forest and thick jungle of other different varieties of plants, trees, herbs etc.

It is like a hidden paradise in the lap of the mountains. Kafir is just 5 km away from Lolegaon, a famous tourist destination in Kalimpong district. A spectacular view of Kanchenjunga can be seen from the homestay. There are aprox 30 families in the village, they mainly cultivates, It is cultivated in 100 percent organic way. There is a forest next to it, There are also specific view points to see the sunrise and sunset.

          Kafer village offers fabulous view of sunrise in the eastern horizon of Bhutan and plains of Dooars and the panoramic view of full range of Kanchenjunga and its sister peaks covered with saffron colored sun rays and a beautiful view of Kalimpong town. The sunset also will be a glorious moment forever which can be seen from this village.

A fabulous view of sunrise and sunset are can be seen from here, Kafir village suitable for spending time in a secluded environment surrounded by lush green forests around. 

Canopy Walk – a hanging bridge is in the middle of a forest is one of the main attraction of nearby. Only 5 person can ride/walk on the bridge at a time and this is one way bridge.

How to Reach Kaffer

Nearest airport is Bagdogra (IXB) and nearest railway station is New Mal Jn. (NMZ) another nearest rail head is New Jalpaiguri (NJP), these are well connected with rest of India. Direct car/taxis are available up to Kaffer Village from Bagdogra airport, NJP and Siliguri (125 K.M), it will take around 4-4.5 hrs. to reach. Shared taxis/jeeps are available up to Kalimpong only from Siliguri.

The village located just 45 K.M away from Kalimpong and may take around one to one and half hour to reach. Another alternate route to Kaffer Village via Lava, distance around 60 K.M.

Best Season to Visit Kaffer

This beautiful Kafer village can be visited throughout year except monsoon due to heavy rain and sometimes for bad road condition. But March - June and again mid September to late December is best season to visit kaffir Gaon village and homestay.
