After your permit verification at Bhalukpong you are
allowed to visit Arunachal Pradesh, after crossing the check post you will
reach to Tipi or Tippi through 6 km uphill road. There is an Orchid Research
Center, which located on west bank of river Kemeng and spread over 10
hectares of flat land. Different types of orchids (over 50,600 species), Museum,
herbarium, butterflies and garden will definitely steal your heart and soul, an
entire day can be spend on this research center. The main attraction of the
center is its fiber proof glass house that has around 1000 beautiful exotic
orchids in pots and hanging baskets.
The Orchid Research Centre (formerly known as 'Tipi
Orchid Station') was established in the year 1972 by the Department of
Environment and Forests of Arunachal Pradesh. At present it is under the Orchid
ology Division of State Forest Research Institute with headquarters at the
state capital Itanagar.
The Orchid Centre, Tipi has a rich orchid germplasm
consisting of about 200 tropical species and about 50 hybrids; about 100
subtropical species at Sessa and about 80 temperate species at Dirang.
The orchid germplasm has been the source material for
the various research works being carried out at the Centre. It is also creating
awareness among the local tribal people and outside tourists regarding orchid
conservation, cultivation and propagation.
