Narkanda is a picturesque hill town of Himachal Pradesh near capital Shimla at a height of 8,800 ft. The road to Narkanda, 65 km from Shimla, is very beautiful. Lonely winding roads and dense oak-pine-fir forest all around. The snow-white peaks of the Himalayas can be seen in the distance. One day in Narkanda, you can see the Hatu Peak 6 km away and the Hatu Mata Temple at the top of the hill. There is also the ancient Mahamaya temple at Kacheri, 6 km away. You can also visit Kotgarh and Thanedar, two of the best apple orchards in Himachal, 16 km away. There are also a few apple orchards in Matiana, just before Narkanda. In winter, skiing is held in the snow-covered Narkanda.

Narkanda located around 65 kms away from capital city Shimla & takes around 3 hrs to reach. The hamlet Narkanda located around 50 kms from Kalka. Direct buses and cars are available from Shimla, Kalka, Rampur & Chandigarh. All the buses from Shimla to Kalpa are going via Narkanda.

Narkanda can be visited throughout the year except monsoon. Winter is best season to travel at Narkanda, which starts around late October to mid-February, this area experience snowfall during winter (Dec – Feb). Summer is also very good time to visit Narkanda.
