Kolakham | near lava lolegaon
Kolakham (কোলাখাম) or Kholakham is a silent and small
village in Neora Valley National Park of Darjeeling district under Kalimpong
sub-division. This village is 8 K.M. away from Lava (an well known tourist
destination), situated on around 6100 ft. above sea level. Key resources of
this green and silent village are cordiality and hospitality of locals in
addition with natural resources in lap of nature. Kolakham village is stuck on
the mountain, one side of this village is widely spread lush green forest and
snow capped Mt. Kanchenjunga through dense forest on another side. Great view
of Mt. Kanchenjunga is visible from this village under lap of Neora Valley
National park.
Total 100 to 150 village inhabitant lives
in this hamlet village most of them are belongs to Nepali ‘Rai’ community,
their hospitality is fabulous. You can find cardamom cultivation and fields
underneath cloudless blue sky, so many fragmented clouds are roaming around the
sky. Sometimes cloud moves away and comes out sunny valley with shining
mountain peak. If you are bird lover then Kolakham is heaven for you, extraordinary
assembly of all the birds are here like verditer flycatcher, scarlet minivet, dork
sided fly catcher, green tailed sunbird etc. You can spend morning time by seeing
the extraordinary scene of Mt. Kanchenjunga with a smolder cup of tea from you
room’s balcony.
Come
out for a day tour to Lava, Rishyap
(Rishop) and Lolegaon, you can see women working on cardamom fields on the
way. Chilly winter is less here compared to Lava and Risop, enjoyable winter
for all aged people. Also you can visit Changi falls, only 5 K.M from Kolakham,
sunlight creates rainbow on this waterfalls.

Nearest railway station is New Jalpaiguri
(NJP) and New Mal Junction in West Bengal. NJP is well connected with all major
Indian cities. Nearest airport is Bagdogra (IXB) and distance only 120 K.M, daily
flights are available from all around India. You can book an exclusive car to
Kolakham from NJP, Siliguri and Bagdogra airport; it’s about 4 hrs scenic
journey through Lava. Jeeps are also good option for transportation from Lava
(distance only 8 K.M), Kalimpong to Kolakham. You may contact with your

Best Season to Visit
Kolakham
You can visit Kolakham throughout the year, but
best time to visit Kolakham is March to May, this is blossoming season for
Orchids. November to end of March is another best time to visit Kolakham, when
tourist flow is less here to enjoy the mighty Kanchenjunga.
